Adam Cowger is currently an adjunct professor of music at Joliet Junior College
where he directs the percussion ensemble and teaches applied percussion.
Additionally, Adam teaches courses in music history at Moraine Valley Community
College and applied percussion at Lockport Township High School.
The percussion program at JJC focuses on developing well-rounded percussionists
in the areas of concert, jazz and world music. In addition to contemporary and
classic literature, the percussion ensemble regularly performs Brazilian samba and
Afro-Cuban folkloric styles.
As a freelance artist, Adam recently formed the Screaming Norwegians percussion
duo with fellow percussion educator/performer Ben Wahlund. He also performs
regularly with the tribute band The Chicago Experience and numerous professional
orchestras in the Chicagoland area. In addition, Adam has performed at the
Percussive Arts Society International Convention, twice at the prestigious
Montreux Jazz Festival and can be heard on Liam Teague and Robert Chappell’s
recent album Open Window.
Adam holds a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University and a bachelor’s
degree from the University of North Dakota, both in percussion performance. His
principal teacher’s include Michael Blake, Rich Holly, Robert Chappell, Greg Beyer, and
Rodrigo Villanueva. Adam is proud to endorse Innovataive Percussion sticks and mallets
